Shifter hard to move..Bravo 1
Before I buy a new cable, i thought i would ask this question first. My shifter is pretty hard to move. It takes a decent amount of effort to get it to shift in and out of gear. Is there anything i can grease or lube to get this to move easier before I buy a new shift cable??? I just installed a new Livorsi shifter assy and the throttle moves like butter... My drive is a Bravo one.. Thanks, Jeff Wurl

I would undo the shift cable at the engine and try moving the shifter first before changing any cables. That will at least tell you which end to start looking at . If it did not shift hard before I would be looking at the new shifter first . just a thought, Jeff :drink:

Jeff, pull the drive off and try moving the shifter.. still like butter, then drain the oil down and pull the back cap.. there is a detent ball and spring there.. Make sure it is intack and well greased.. Other wise.. it may be the cable..
Hope this helps. Dick |
Most of the time it is a cable. They are cheap but pain the in rear to replace.

Are you trying to shift it without the engine running?

I am shifting it with the engine running. I will unhook the cable this weekend and see how easy it moves. Thanks, Jeff

What about the little ball and spring on the back side of the drive cover? Mine was stiff and the ball and spring needed greased up.

Hope this helps. Dick I concure here, take the back cover off, will loose some gear lube :( need a 12point socket for the bolts, I think it was a 3/8 i had and was able to use :( yea I know it should be metric. but was able to soak the detent and lube it back up to all is well. Part was less then $30 however it was a 7-10 day lead time :( Take the cable off the engine mount, but then it could be your connection with the new shifter. |
I found the ball and socket on mine bound up over the winter repaired it and greased it etc. I thought I found the problem, I even replaced the cable to the drive, it seemed stiff when I removed it. It works fine with the drive disconnected put the drive on it is stiff as it was before. I didn't change the cable from the shifter back to the motor
