Tailpipes, What would you do?

I made some mock up of exhaust tails for my boat. I sent them off to be made & what I got back was not exactly what I had expected to get. I can make these work by cutting aprox. 3/4" off both the tail & the elbow. I have black duck tape connecting the elbow to the tail right now. As you can see the distance from the end of the elbow is aprox. 4" With this setup the exhaust will have aprox. 20" with water. The orginall mockup I had was curve at top, angle pipe down, and cure out. What would you do? Cut existing & make work or send back???

buy the size pipe you need to connect the new elbow to the tips and rig it up that way. I think they will cut lengths to your size requirements too.

But if the fabricator didn't make eth tailpipes to your specs i woudl ***** and send them the bill to finish it up or send them back and have them fix it themselves.

I have just about the exact tailpipe location on my boat as yours and have the same headers. I remember I had 2 elbows and they were not exactly the same. There was a left and right and they had a top and bottom. I got in a hurry and tried to put them on the opposite side and it didn't fit. I did end up filing a little off one elbow for extra clearance. Get your rubber exhaust tubing and you my be surprised how forgiving it is. You may only need to cut a very small amount off. Also be sure to flip the elbow over. In the picture it appears not to be symmetrical. That may just be the picture though. As far a having enough dry pipe I think this is the best way to go especially if noise is a concern. The amount of drop gives you extra dry pipe length. The fact that the water mixes with the exhaust a ways up the pipe will help quiet it down. I run shotgun mufflers and at idle I will pass any states noise laws. That's with a 496", 13:1 compression motor! For ref. my cam is 272/280 @ .050" .714" lift and no reversion. I have run a cam with 278/284 duration at .050" with no reversion. Let us know how you come out.
