Kaama Drives and Questions
 

Hi All,

I am new here and happened up on this site by luck. I have a Scarab sporting two Kaama drives. I have many questions about them. Like What is the most effiecient way to get them on plane? What should I do if anything before putting the boat in the water for the season? Is there anyway I can get my hands on a manual for these? And finally are there any people I can call to ask questions or take the boat to for maintenance and parts? I am in the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair area. She is 38" and is a ***** to get on plane. Its a bit of a project boat but unfortunately my project money is not where I was hoping it would be but she runs just needs a few upgrades.

Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search on this site. The only issue with the drives really is that the boots can not be gotten. There are a few guys that have rigged up stuff to keep them on the water and a few guys that are talking about having boots made up. When you are searching you should find a few guys that have the manuals on CD. Maybe they can email or mail you a copy. Good luck with it. THey will slip getting on plane.

My boat is a 311 Formula

1. I bury my drives all the way sometimes i put the tabs just below level. Push the sticks up to about 3500 and let the boat plane off. it takes alittle to get used to but after about 4 or five times you can perfect it!!

2. Normal checks on drive oil and tranny oil and you should be good to go.

3. BOATMAN302 here on the board boats in Lake St. Clair and has all the manuals and set up info you need.

4. BOOTS have become very hard to find. There was a thread about someone making some but there has been no word as of late if they have or not.

yep....
don't be scared to roll over those throttles (3000-3500 should do it), as the bow and rpm's rise, back off gently but purposefully to "stall the plane" then when the bow drops, throttle-up! it gives the props a chance to spool up/aerate while the bow's falling and the stern's rising into the white-wash...
tabs will help the process proceed quicker...i drove a 30' sutphen w/ kaamas...with a little practice it becomes second nature...fyi, my 26 likes the same procedure...
