741 cam and distributor gear
 
can i still ust the distributor gear i used on my stock 500 hp cam, someone mentioned i may need a bronze gear.

timing settings
 
my 500hp carb motors w, 741 cam should i set initial at 10 and what should i set total timing at 3000 rpm is it 34.

That cam uses a pressed on cast gear. You will be fine with a stock dist. gear. Timing is a little low initial. That's why people used to use v6 modules or MSD so they could get higher initial timing and keep the same total. What you have will work, but it's not the best.

The best gear to run would be a Composite Distributor Gear made by Comp Cam .... the BBC has two differernt Shaft Diameters .... .491 & .500 .....you need to check which you have ... Safe way to set/check the timing is check total advance ...34-36* .....m

You can run the stock gear with no problem. I ran it with my 731.
Your module gives 20* advance by 3000rpms. Set base timing at 14* and total timing should be 34* at 3000rpms. Verify the total timing. It is more important the base timing.
