Engine alignment with offshore race mount??
Does a engine still need to be aligned with an offshore race mount? I just bought a new drive and was supposed to have it put on today but the guy cancelled until sometime next week. I was going to put it on myself but the guy told me that I need to check the alignment before installation. I have been told that I do and I don't?? What do you guys think??

I believe if the motor has NOT been removed, then you should be ok, but at the same time if you have the drive off why wouldn’t you want to verify the alignment? Poor alignment can cost big $$'s later.

Alignment is necessary and it needs to be right. The solid mount position is best determined using the alignment tool as a guide. Correct alignment with solid mounts is a pretty big project....especially with a fully dressed engine. You install one bolt on each side and then add additional bolts one a a time checking the alignment as you go. As you tighten each bolt the alignment will likely change. In my experience, there is a very small chance that your current alignment is correct.

The motor was rebuilt last april and put back in by a certified merc. mechanic. I blew the old drive at the end of last season so I purchased a new one this spring. I know that hear rechecked the alignment after the motor was put in.

I misunderstood your initial post. As you haven't started the project yet, consider being present to view the alignment after the solid mount has been installed.
