blower mtr timing

why is it so popular to lock out the timing on blower mtrs?

They start better for one, and IMO it helps take the surge away...

well you only want about 26 of total timing, locked will clean up the idle and with very low compression starting usually not a issue..Rob

I run 32 degrees timing, have for years. 8.5-8.75:1 static, starting has never been an issue.

I was told and found out that Low timing at idle, to off idle exhaust temps go thru the roof ,hot enough to stick a ex valve in the guide even up to .0025 clearance,That motor was locked out at 36.

My 500efi Whipple map totals out at 36.
