MSD BOX GM-2L getting no spark
 

Ignition Box is getiing no spark.. went through a few different ways to test but still no spark..

what can i do to trouble shoot this..

If you try the test below and there is no spark ....replace the box ......

WAIT !!!! are you SURE ???? by god i have NEVER heard of an MSD box going bad...

this is shocking news.

alert the media.

msd ought to sell those things in pairs. one to get you halfway there and the second one to get you back home...

need more info ..... what motor ...Distributor .....coil ... you say the box is new? It never worked ? Or stopped? ...details .....m

what Distributor part #? and coil? good news is that box if brand new should be under warranty ...bad news is those boxes cannot be repaired ....

It's entirely possible that the new box is JUNK as hard as that may seem to believe. A few years ago my msd 6 box got dropped from about 5 feet onto concrete,it was 6 or 7 years old and still worked flawlessly up until this happened. I decided to upgrade to the marine box,the same one you have. The first one I ordered would only rev so hi even though the chip was much higher (it also did it with chip removed),would occasionally quit t of the blue. I sent it back andgot another,it was WORSE,had weird intermittent problems. I called Msd countless times,they kept blaming MY install. I rewired it and it made ZERO diffference. I then ordered a 3rd box AND a msd tester. Guess what,I immediately took the 3rd box out of it's packaging and hooked the tester to it,it was JUNK right out of the box (it would spark a few times if you had tester on it and wiggled the input wires alot!!! Disgusted,I sent everthing back and installed a crane hi box,it has been trouble free so far,Smitty

Sad, but this seems to be all too common. It seems that the MSD quality has really had a decline in recent years.

if you are running a dist that requires a box hard to dia, call msd, if you are runnng a stand alone dist unhook the box...but the bottom line is as I always say MSD = MAY SOON DIE refuse to run their junk in my boats or my top sportsman race car...Rob

had 2 digtal 6 go bad in 8 months got stuck again sat , msd is the worst.

you can run the crane with the MSD dist, but with crane not in business right now and issues with MSD pickup in the dist failing I would not....we switched out top sportsman race car to crane last fall, then they went away...jegs took all the stuff back...now have all mallory stuff, their box is slick....have not run the car yet, but soon...unless you need a rev limiter forget a box, does not help performance at all...put a mallory unilite in and forget it..no box, very slick timing curve adj. Just to throw my .02 ..... I have run the MSD's for 2 years with no issues on the Boxes ..... I did have a PU go bad in the Distributor (21.00) ...It was over a year old and MSD sent me a new one ..... However ....Last week we were headed out in the boat and we were idleing out and I told my wife to swap the battery switch to "all" .....She thought I said off ....in her defense the boat is loud ..... anyway she swapped it to off and we continued to idle for about a minute and when I throttled up to get on Plane both Motors quit ....fried one of the boxes ....not MSD's Fault ....I'm lucky it did not get both boxes ......You do hear about the bad boxes ....but how many thousands of good boxes are out there? .........m

make sure the white wire is not grounded

i know, one of my buddies has been running the MSD for about 2 yrs now with no problems, but i guess so guys have all the luck..lol
