Question on Crane Hi6M module

Just got a Crane Hi6M ignition system. While perusing the manual that came with it I flipped to the appendix that shows the timing curves that can be selected via the rotary switches. I am running a basically stock 502 with headers and single plane Dart with Holley 800 so I will select the advance curve for the HP 425/450/465/500.

The advance curve in the Crane documentation shows the base timing set at 14 degrees with a total advance of 34 full in at 3000 rpm. So far so good. The Crane unit advances a total of 20 degrees from my base.

The stock Merc ignition module (which is eliminated at install of the Crane unit) is the 24 module. Using this my base timing was set at 10 for a total of 34 full in at 3000 .

What concerns me is the base timing of 14 degrees. Won’t a 14 degree base timing make the idle fairly high? If memory serves me while setting the timing with the stock setup the idle increased a fair amount from 8 to 10 and jumped a bit when I tried 12. Anyone run one of these and notice the idle being high due to the base timing of 14?

cpqtim,
Setting your base timming 4 degrees higher will increase idle rpm.4 more will not hurt anything at idle. You can adjust base idle on carb no problem?I was looking at the crane ingitionsystem myself. It looks like a good set up.
