I would also assume that hardin marine took into mind that the 212 was a good baseline to get the oil to quickly by bypassing the cooler. Then letting the cooler control the oil temp from there. I was originally worried about 212 not being good enough to bake off the moisture in the oil, not thinking that i'm sure it will get above that when under high loads and extended high rpm's.

I have been thru this problem. Probally have rocks or debris in the cooler. I had to remove all of my coolers and flush them out its a ***** to do . Oil temps will run higher than water temps. Locate the oil cooler and remove,I would bet that its plugged. My oil temp usually is a little higher when the engine is run at a speed that barely keeps the boat on plane I usually cruise at 32-3500 rpm and the oil temp is about 140. If I try to force the boat to stay on plane thru using tabs and run at a lower rpm it is about 180. I have never sen my oil temp over 200. I just found my sheet from fountian and they record all the vitals at various rpms and at wot they recorded 155. Water pressure should be a minimum of 25 psi 35 max, The heat exchange is more efficient at a higher psi the same as on a closed system on a car or truck w/ a 14-16 psi cap. I installed a sea strainer on both the engine and a seperate one one the cooler line to the blower because I do not ever want to go thru that again.......... My water pressure from fountain on the test sheet is 11 @3000, 17@4000, 20 @4450 and 25 wfo. Currently After all the work that I went thru its back to that. plus some. I do not run my motor as hard as most I bet if I tried I kill the motor as I see most trying to do we could get It over 200. It should be mandatory to have a sea strainer from the factory but in 02 fountain did not put them on maybe they do now.........

well, with all due respect to fountain, if you are running your oil temps that low, you are making a mistake. i would suggest that that sheet you are looking at is what the recorded during their sea trials. not what they would reccomend as normal operating temps. all you are doing by running it that cold is burning extra fuel, losing a fair but of power and nevr getting rid of the condensation in the oil.
there is absolutely no upside at all to what you are doing. |

the water temp guage is normal at about 160 but every time i go out the oil temp seems to be getting hotter but water temp stays the same anybody help cheers oil temp about 230 on a long fastish run have only really tested the boat on short stints in the winter was only getting 180 but your posts have explained this i`m going to check all the cooling as one side is getting hotter than the other i was told this is normal on a 502 but when i flushed the motor on muffs its getting more water one side than other so best check it out |
