What year are my motors?

I have a 88 scarab III with 454's and when i bought it the guy said it had new crate motors installed in 2005 so im wondering what i have to do to find out what year they really are. Any help would be great.

You could try Looking right above the starter there might be a tag with the serial number on it. Then call a dealer and have them run the history for you.

you can get the #'s you need to ck on the pad that sticks out from under the left head as you face the engine, clean that off and the #'s should be there unless the block was decked..

When you find the number go to mortec.com it will tell you what you want to know. If it has a place for a manual fuel pump it is a Mark IV. If it has no place for fuel pump and a metal cover Gen V, a composite timing cover it is a gen VI.
