Starboard motor mount lags pulled out of stringer

The stainless lags used to bolt down the motor mount to the stringer on the starboard side of my Crownline pulled out during engine removal. (Turns out the motor mount was rusted fast - didn't take much pressure to pull the lags out. :picard1: )

Anyway, this isn't a high HP boat, its just a stock non magnum 454. If I'm not mistaken, the starboard motor mount is the push side so there shouldn't be a lot of stress on these lags, right?

What's my best option for repair? Fill the holes with resin and re-lag or should I do something more elaborate with some steel plate?

I don't know if I would go with steel plate, but yu can cut out the old parts of the stringer and glass in new 4X4's if you want to fix it right or you can fill the holes with resin and relag, I've done both and both worked, but if you plan to keep the boat a while replace the stringers

whats the condition of the wood they pulled out of?? soft?? wet??

Made "U" shaped plates and through bolted them to stringers. Then bolted mounts on top of plates.

Condition is excellent... replacing the stringers seems like overkill.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking - Except I hadn't thought about making it U shaped, I was just going to use a flat plate and lag it to the stringer, then bolt the mount to the plate.

The U shape might be overkill for this, the lags didn't rip out from HP, they ripped out from trying to lift the motor while it was rusted to the mount http://www.vortexmediagroup.com/images/banghead.gif

How are you going to bolt the mount to the plate?

I'm helping a friend pull a motor and he's dealing with the same issue, mount nuts rusted so pulled the lag bolts. Plus he broke one head off a lag.

If I remember correctly, we made the plates (which cost nothing, had materail) ran bolts up from bottom side of plate and welded heads of bolts to plate. Took all measurements, position plate over stringer allowing bolt head to touch top of stringer. Through bolted plates to stringer. Positioned mount over the 2 bolts sticking up.
Seen the same on another boat that was using a different type of mount and the stringer was notched 1-2 inches and reglassed so mounting of engine mount could be lower.
After pulling 2 lag bolts through I just wanted something alittle more permanant and not be able to overtighten a lag and strip.

Here's a pic of my mounts, through bolted to the stringers. Simple and functional.

Here's my mounts with the 'U-Shaped' Clamps that then get bolted through the stringers over where the old mounts used to go. ( epoxy and doweled the old holes first)

I then welded the box section replacement mount bases to these plates:
