cockpit cover material
 

Gonna get a new cockpit cover for my beloved old school 357 and I want something different then Sumbrella. This cover is only going to be used when we sleep on boat in a marina on Saturday nights...or so. I'm thinking about a light weight material. My canvas dude has a source for a waterproof 6 oz material I never heard of. Does anybody have any experiences with lighter materials for cockpit covers?:cool:

A full cover and a cockpit cover. Been real happy with the product, just dont remember the name of it. You can call and ask what they use for boat covers.. I would think she would tell you the name of it?? I had it made in 1999 and although the boat is not outside that much, it has held up. At the time it was made they showed me a cover that was 20yrs from a fishing boat that had been out all of it's life and it held up pretty good. It has kind of a plastic feel to the outside and a soft cloth inside.. I highly recommend it.

Stamoid is vinyl coveredMaterial and it is super durable. Just make sure the canvas shop has done work with this before as it will shore bad fits and wrinkles if they don't have some experience with it.

Up north, I have used a fabric called top gun, It's really water proof and heavy duty. it fl. it seems to promote mold because it seals so well. Many colors too.

the material you want is aqualon

I have been looking for the same thing ....Something light that we can use that is 100% waterproof ...Northernshore is right about the mildew here in Fla ... we will just use it when caught out in Bad weather .....or the occasional overnite ....m

Another vote for Aqualon. Top Gun is heavy and rough to the touch.

Aqualon is 100% water proof, except at stitching, but conversely 0% breathability so mechanical vents are required. Also the vinyl looking surface is susceptable to UV damage so use of 303 Space Age Protectant is recommended by Mfg.

Sunbrella is very breathable but not that water poof and requires periodic cleaning and retreatment with special water proofing agent.
