Someone Educate Me on Grounding!!!

I am just finishing up adding Corsa diverters. Why do so many accessories need to grounded directly to the block at the same place as the neg. battery cable attaches? Why is not a terminal block attached via cable to this point considerd sufficient? The grouding stud on the back of my engine is a ***** to get to not to mention that its already stacked full with ring terminals...the Corsa system just adding to the mess. The Corsa instructions show attaching blk wire to the stud on the engine block only. Thanks in advance, Dave

I think grounding at the back of the block is just typically convienent and out of the way. You could ground some place else on the block, or ground direct to the battery. You could also put in a terminal block and wire that to the the block or battery. There isn't anything magic about the back of the block. Just make sure you have a clean contact point.

Sledge Hammer is coorect. You do not have to go to the block. On my Formula for example I have a ground location at the dash, another at the panel in the cabin, another on either side of the boat and then the ones on the motors. They all would work. The reason that they say to go to the block is that they assume the block is grounded the best (Large battery cable) and they tell you to go to the same place as all the other grounds because they assume that to be a clean ground point. If you make sure you remove the paint prior to putting your lug down you will be fine any place on the engine. If you want to go to some place else in the engine bay then just make sure that the cable that goes back to the battery is sufficient in size to handle your load.

Thank-you...I just grounded the Corsa system to a terminal block that is connected to to a neg cable from the battery and everything is working fine (for now at least!) Take Care ,Dave
