Mallory distributor ???
Hello,
I looking to replace my BBC distributor if anyone has one let me know. Is the mallory electronic distributor a good product , is anyone running this type mechanical advance distributor without any problems any pro's and con's. Thanks for any input |
Depending on which Mallory you're talking about, the short answer to is it any good? Is probably No.
The dual point is crap (old tech) and most of their other dists aren't coated so the housing corrodes easily in a marine environment. Their Marine dist is expensive, but not good enough to warrant it. If you need an aftermarket dist, go for a Mag Pick-up style. If you want the all in one package, go for the 'coil in cap' HEI style. Either way, I'd suggest an MSD Distributor. I run the 'Pro-Billet' PN85551 mag pick-up, but you need an ignition box for that and I'm not sure if it'll work with TBIV? I try and avoid mech adv, it's just one more thing to check and clean. That having been said, over reliance on electronics is bad too! Remember though, you'll need a good coil if you go aftermarket dist to get the most out of it! For what it's worth, them's my thoughts on the matter... |
This is the one I use. http://www.performancedistributors.com/marinedui.htm

I used one on the small block in the scarab, and had no problems.

the unilite is a great dist and requires no box to run, also has a very simple adj advance curve !!! stay away from the MSD (may soon die) stuff..another choice are the aftermarket H/P hei's...Rob
