6.2 merc timing chain covers

I installed new cams in 06 merc 6.2s. Merc manual says I should replace plastic timing covers when removed. I can not see any reason for replacment seals are in great shape ect. Also when installing stock distributer I just bring motor to TDC and rotor at 1 cylinder and computer must set timing?? Thanx for any info

If I remember right something on the cover brakes when taking it off and it will leak if you reuse the old one. You are much better off buying a new one. On the timing if you went by the manual and lined up the lines on the distributer then you wil be ok, and you do not need a timing light any more the PCM will take over.
