496 low oil pressure

I have an '02 496 (non-HO, 227 hrs) that has about 20 psi at idle, and about 28 at 4000 rpm. I thought it should be about 40. Has anyone else experienced this?

I just had the starter replaced.

I am taking it in to have a pressure gauge attached to determine if this is just instrumentation.

Will I ruin the motor at 28 psi oil pressure?

Thx

When I connect a scanner to 496HO it always reports higher oil press. than my gauge. When the motor is warm my gauge usually reads around 40 lbs anywhere from a fast idle to WOT.

28lbs at 4K does sound low.

Mine runs the same PSI! Placed a mechanical gauge on it and readings where Correct around 28 PSI.
