PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION FOR ME. When you brought the pistons back to the machine shop and told them to hone them out what was their reply ??

???? "back to the machine shop " ??? I didnt have them press the pistons on they were already on there , I just thought a couple were too tight on the pins when I disassembled the motor ( got it on trade with a rod knocking for some cash and one of my tired 502s) they agreed with me that it was too tight

Some people may have done this but I have never reused a piston that had to be pressed on and off a rod more thn once.

Now you are saying you took a couple of well used pistons and removed them from a pressed fit rod. Then the piston was honed and the rod was pressed back in.

Pressed or heated either way that it was done I would throw the pistons in the trash.

Once again think about how much fun pulling that engine was.

ph,
With the proper fixture, this procedure puts absolutely no stress on the piston.

That being said, my experience has been that once they start to tighten up in the piston, they are junk about half of the time.

But then again the reason they did tighten was from cleaning which is normal being all lubricants were taken from the pin. Then the well used pistons were taken to be honed then became to loose. And after said an done the owner complained about them being to loose. But then stated they seemed tighter when lube was applied.

The trash can is the only good place for these pistons at this time. I am no joe motor head but I have leaned threw experience. He will be pulling this engine again if these pistons are used.
