Rebuild Hydraulic Steering Rams

Anybody have any tips on how to get them apart without tearing them up? I dropped one off at a hydraulic shop. I told them dont touch it if you cannot get it apart with out scuffing it up.... they called.

Now I want to do it myself. Save me some time if you have learned your lessons. Thanks!

They are Marine Machine Rams. The end seals are leaking.

I sent mine back to Bing at Marine Machine. It was not that expensive, and they had a fast turnaround time.

I did mine, if you can have some one else do them I'd recommend it. Fiddly pain in the azz job

No sh i t. The first seal to go in is a nightmare. But, $30 bucks later and about 2 hrs. and I have 2 rebuilt rams. May be the cheapest, important, boat repair I have ever done.

Thanks.
