Fuel pump opinions
 

I took a look at my raw water pump/fuel pump setup and noticed that there's a little bit of oil on it. Smells like gear oil, but not 100% sure. Don't know if or how long its been leaking. It's atleast 5 years old and my understanding is that the water pump housing failing is pretty common and its smart to replace the whole thing. Rather then put a new fuel pump and gasket on there, to find out its the housing, why not replace it all (to be safe). I'm looking for opinions. Should I replace the seawater pump and fuel pump with oem parts or block off fuel pump part and switch to a electric fuel pump? Like I said, I haven't had a problem in numerous years with seawater/fuel pump setup. Just looking at the cost and its actually cheaper to switch to a electric fuel pump. Assuming I can just block off where mechanical pump went. Can anyone add incite to that? If I would need to replace seawater pump housing regardless of what I decide with fuel pump, or can it ride on if I'm not attaching mechanical fuel pump to it?

I would stick with what you have, the fuel pump gearbox has gear oil in it and probably the seal behind the pulley is leaking. As long as the bearing is good I'd change the seal.

It would be a good time to put a rebuild kit in your fuel pump.

After market electric fuel pumps are not reliable in a boat unless properly configured with a return style regulator

Is there anything else I should replace on the seawater pump while I have it apart? And how hard is it to take it apart once off the motor? I'm gonna attach the parts diagram and let me know what part by number I should replace.
