Different peanut port head question!
Hi All,
I've had a good search and can't find the info i'm after... Can i run a gen 6 502 with gen 5 peanut port heads from a 330hp 454? Any ideas on what power i'd see, and if it's even worth doing? The reason i ask is because i currently have the 454 in the boat, but i'm due to race next weekend. I was going to be running the 502 with rectangular heads, but i've just found i've got a problem with one. Now my options are to either just stick with the 330hp 454, or put those heads on my 502 and run that instead. I can't decide if it'll be worth it. Porting etc is out of the question. Cheers, James |

those heads barely make power in a 454, there is no volume to thoughs heads, don't waste your time and money for gaskets.

Yes they'll fit but they may also do more harm than good.
The engine will run, but depending on your set-up (carb/efi, intake, exhaust) it will not run well over 3000rpm. You may also run the risk of overpressuring the heads due to the flow mismatch ond pooping a headgasket. Obviously, that can lead to much worse outcomes... It will fit and I'd do it only if I was stuck somewhere and had to move the boat. Not to race it or even drive it in a remotely 'spirited' manner. Are the rect ports cracked or something? |
