Rob,
It was an Ebay sale that said delco voyager. I'm taking the dist in to a buddys marine/auto shop to inspect it. He suspects it's a put together package and not marine. he's gonna check the numbers. the coil didn't have a SS mounting bracket and the mounting holes didn't match up to any mounting places. Did your coil have a SS mounting bracket? bracket? Thanks, Charlie |
With just my regular timing light, dash tach and painted timing marks on the dampner, I set the idle timing at 5* and charted to TA of 21* at 2500 rpm I also set the TA at 25* per my painted marks and dash tach and ran it up to 3000. and tested at 1000 and 2000.
I plotted the advertised advance numbers next to my numbers and surprisingly, they chart very similar curves. I'll have to get an advance timing light to do a good comparison...but all 'n all, I didn't feel any difference between the Delco EST and the TB IV 24 and 24S modules. They all fire right up if I even get close to the ignition switch. I'll tell ya one thing. Compared to installing a TB ignition system, the Delco is WAYYYYY cheaper for the whole set-up. I'll update as I go along. |
no the coil braket that I got(and did not use) was not s/s, my crusaders had the distributors stock, but I had to buy a special modifyed one when we re-powered and the reverse rotation engine changed the way the dist worked(long story), but anyway if you look on the underside of the base plate(under the module) you should see a stamping with a # that starts with a J, thats the true marine ones I'm told....Rob

OK! Thanks for that Rob.
I made a graph and plotted the advance curve as posted here. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...ngs/img001.jpg and I put an overlay with my total advance set at 25*/3000 and marked at 1000 and 2000. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...ngs/img002.jpg I was using my dash tach which shows high at idle and the timing marks are painted on by me so it ain't that accurate. I'll get an advance timing light on it with tach to get a better and more accurate plot later. This is a newly rebuilt engine(12 hrs) so I'm keeping the advance down a little during break-in. |
