best way to remove outer gimbal ring from transom assembly
I picked up a Bravo transom assembly, and the outer assembly was painted with red bottom paint, so I want to take it all apart and media blast it and re paint it before I put it back together, and I will change out the bearing and bellows while its apart,
so whats the best way to pull the the ring that goes around the gimbal off ? (sorry I dont know the right name for this piece ) it looks like there are 2 small plastic covers on the sides, that are held in with 2 small phillips head screws each, each of these plastic covers has 2 wires attached to it, when I was trying to get the screws out on 1 side the plastic piece snapped and the small screw snapped off inside the housing, so I was able to get the cap off and it looks like a large allen head or torx head bolt in there possibly but Im not sure I dont want to start taking stuff apart without some insight also what are those plastic pieces on the sides, theres 1 on each side and they have 2 wires going to each of them, they look like a little motor or something, so where would I be able to buy a new one of these to replace the broken one also thanks for any help sorry if I dont know the correct names for some of this stuff but Ive never messed with an outdrive transom before |

the 2 plastic things on the sides are the trim sender and trim limit, you doun't buy just 1 they come as a set, the part you are trying to remove is called the bell housing, as you found, under the 2 plastic things there are 12 point allen sockets, take those out, undo the bellows ( 2- drive shaft and exaust) undo the water hose, needs special tool to grab it, and any grounding straps there may be, the shift cable may pull out of the housing assy if the ends of the cable have been removed.
the gimble ring assy is the large round peice that the 2 plastic things mounted to. |

the gimble ring assy is the large round peice that the 2 plastic things mounted to. those hinge pins were a real pain, any recommendations on where to get new hinge pins and the bushing for them, also a good place to get the trim sender and limit pieces because mine are now broken, the bolts actually snapped inside the ring, so I have to drill those out tomorrow thanks |
