454 ignition module questions
hey guys I have a 97 454 mag mpi and i was wondering if the ignition module from a truck application would be the same as a marine one. i have already installed it and seem to have lost a little top end speed.
what do you guys think? Thanks |
have you checked your timing at full advance? not sure what the advance curve is however be sure and check your total advance even up to 4500 rpm or even 5000.
|
thanks for the reply, and no i have not checked it i just have an old school timing light and the timing is set at 8 at 1000 rpm. do you think it could be different?
|
absolutely. what exactly did you use for a module and how did you tie it in with your existing set up?
just curious. |
just bought one at carquest from a 7.4 litre truck engine put it in the distributer and plugged the two connectors in.

Thanks,
Just looking for options on modules for these thunderbolts. I don't plan to use them long term and can't believe what they get for those things. |
can anybody answer this for me???
|
The ignition module from 87-95 chevy truck is identical to your merc motor, assuming the module has a 2 pin connector and a 4 pin connector as well as the two pin going to the reluctor. Make sure you didn't plug the reluctor 2 pin connector in backwards. Also make sure to use heat sink compound underneath the module to transfer the heat to the distributor housing or the module will get too hot and you will lose output at high loads/rpm.
