What is the best marine battery for my application?
I bought a 1989 31 ss sonic with twin 454's and a battery switch. It has twin batteries and I would like to replace them both. Always thought highly of optima but just curious what battery and exact model and brand would be the best for my setup. We have a stereo and full cuddy accessories

From the research I did and what I bought is Odyssey 2150.

I have had very good luck with Optima Blue Tops.... not cheap, but they have been great.
|
I've used Walmart batteries (ultimately INTERSTATE) with no issues at all.
The sell a 900/130AH for around $75.00 with a three year free replacement. How many Optimas can you get for $150.00? (No offense blue top guys). |
Run two starting batteries and a dedicated "house" battery if you want to be as safe as possible when running accessories while anchored out.

Went with 2 blue top deep cycle Optimas and couldn't be happier!

If you go to Sears and get their top of the line batteries they are Johnson Contols same as the AAMP/Stinger and Odysy battereies. They Johnson Controls are the best I have ever used, they blow away the optimas and last a long time. They are not cheap but they work better then anything and tend to last more then twice as long as the cheaper so it is kind of a pay now or pay later deal as I look at it.

-For what it's worth, I've been running the same set of Interstate (grp 27) batteries since June 2002.
They've lasted seven years so far, been completely drained flat countless times and still work great. I know I should just buy new ones but I guess I just want to see how long they'll go!:drink: Kurt |
