thats funny griff, my truck does the same thing. thought it was an issue at first but after talking to other people i found out it was common with the 8.1 chevy/ gmc motors. about the combustion thing, you may be right, but i hear of alot of people with 502 motors getting 500+ hours without issues. mark

Run a heavier oil, say 20w50, ( I don't like straight 50 as it is real thick when cold, even at 50F) it is less volitile at running temps than a 40, an if you run a synthetic it will have a higher flash point which will also help in cutting oil consumption.

I have seen 25w60 oils on the market.

try using brad penn 20w50 oil,i use it with good results:coolcowboy:

the only time mine uses oil is when i change it
