70 MPH Mega Yacht

I think I found my next boat. I just saw it on the travel channel. It has 20,000 HP turbine engines. What do you guys think. http://www.peterkehoe.com/The_World.htm

wake jumping anyone???

twin 5,435hp diesels and one 9200hp turbine...
Thats the way most megaspeed yachts are setup.
They normally only crank up the turbine for speed runs
otherwise they would have a very short range due to fuel use.

I was in Ventura Harbor (California) recently, and they have the Gentry Eagle tied up at the dock and for sale.

112 foot V-Bottom that broke several world records, including New York to England in 62 hours.

Was quite a thrill for me to be passing by the docks and see this piece of history...Had no idea she was in Ventura. I remember reading about this boat in magazines back in the 90's.

Wish I had the scratch to buy her and bring her back to glory.

There's been a feature on Megayachts about this boat. Quite impressive.

Yep, thats where I saw it last night on the Travel Channel. They try to build them out of honeycomb, lightweight materials.

Does that apply for "Cash for Clunkers", I think the milage is definatly poor enough.

I imagine it may fall under the 'gas guzzler' tax...lol!

I just saw it on the Travel Channel last night. What's impressive is all the effort put into making it lightweight (relatively speaking for a 140' megayacht!). Most of the interior was a honeycomb construction using wood laminate. Looks like heavy wood, but very lightweight.

It was funny watching all those people standing at the helm as the captain throttled down trying to break 70 mph.
