Oil Cooler Size - "HELP "
 

Is there a chart or recommendations for the TRS plate style oil coolers. Basically what I am wondering if there is a Plate # VS. Horsepower. I am in the works of getting my coolers and plumbing in order and just thought I would check to see what the best set up would be. I have the 13 plate on the engines and the 8 plate for the BW C-72 trans. Is the 13 plate adequate for a 496 - 600 HP or is it overkill? This is just a set up that I ended up with for one engine however need to get the other side ready.

The 13 plate for 600 hp is a bit big, but that's ok. You should have an oil thermostat to help get the temp up. With the thermostat, it's ok to have a cooler that is a little big. Now without a thermostat, you will have problems making oi temp with that large of a cooler.

I do have a couple extra 8 plates that will accomodate me as well. Do you feel that might be a better route. I do plan to run T-stats also. I was looking online last night to see what would work best for my application as well as financially.

PS Let me know if you have a line on t-stats also.

I think the 8's will work. If you have them already, then I would try them. However, if you have to buy them, then go for the 13's. They do not cost that much more and you will have enough cooler for any future upgrades.

I can get you an oil thermostat if you would like. Do you want just the thermostat, or the thermostat and oil filter mount combo?
