Good oil changer "vacuum pump" recommendation
I need to buy an oil changer pump for changing engine oil. Anybody have a recommendation on one that works good. Electric's may be nice, but I figure a hand pump will last longer, and much cheaper. Will use about twice a year. Some names I've seen... Mity Vac, Moeller, Jabsco.

I have the Moller one, $50.00 at West Marine. Works flawlessly.
Brother in law has had the same one for about 5 years now, same thing, works as it should. No need to get fancy with it. |
How much does it hold. Be nice to hold all engine oil at once instead of doing it twice.

I have the Mity-Vac. Use it after running the engine and the oil is warm. Hook it straight to the dipstick tube, 4 to 5 pumps and oil is out in about 3 minutes. Holds about 2 to 2.5 gallons.

I have a Mity-Vac also. It works great as long as the ambient temp is not to high. If its too hot outside, they will collapse on themselves and make quite a mess. I found this out the hard way, one time changing oil on my 35, when it was about 120F in the storage unit. I called Mity Vac and told them what happened, and they sent me a brand new unit, free of charge! I was impressed.

I have the style that looks like old school metal gas can. (forget the brand). Hand pump works perfectly as long as oil is warmed up, had had it for like 5-6 yrs. I have a friend with a tall cylindrical one that only holds 4 qts and he has to stop and empty 1/2 way thru. I am usually drinking beer as it pumps oil out so that is too much inconvenience for me, I vote for one that holds the capacity of motor.

These seem to be very popular and are very heavy duty to last a lifetime. Holds 6.5 liters. http://www.keitheickert.com/detail.aspx?ID=3353

Thanks for the info. Hey, I'm down in La. so it gets pretty hot, but not 120, even in the shop! i like the idea of one holding all the oil at once too.
I'll bet they don't even make em in metal anymore. Quality stuff has gone downhill. |
Yeah, mine takes two trips. I think it holds around 5 or 6 quarts. That is a downside, I agree.

I have a mighty vac one that is air operated. Works really well. plug it up and let it pump. It does have to be emptied one time though.
