Drive Air Tubes

I'm seeing a lot of boats lately with the drive air tubes (I think that's what they're called). What are they for?

They are for getting air to the props so that they somewhat cavitate/slip when trying to get on plane. Usually when really big props are used for top end speed numbers. The motor has a hard time spinning these big props while gettng the boat on plane at lower engine rpm levels. It also eases the load on the outdrives when lots of the boat and props are still in the water... while getting on plane.
