89 4.3 omc cobra wont start
i have an 89 4.3 omc cobra, i had it running in the driveway for 30 min shut it off and took it to the delta at the beginning of the year. when i put it in it wouldn't start and hasnt since. it gets fuel, good spark and cranks fine. please help

how are you checking for fuel? look in the carb and watch if the accellerator pump is pumping fuel in, you need 3 things to run, spark (at the right time), fuel and compression, if you have fuel in the intake and it will not start or try to start, I would look to the ignition sys. spark could be to weak fire the plugs, thats got the old points and condensor sys. with a spark tester check the coil for a good strong spark, blue in color, points and condensor are cheap replace them.
let us know how it comes out. larry |
i have replaced the whole ignition system and am getting good spark. the first thing i checked was the fuel system and the pump is working.

is the fuel good?,,,,,,, pour a capful of lawnmower gas down the carb,,,, put the flame arrestor back on and try that.
|
all the obvious has been done, rebuilt the carb, poured gass down it, madesure distributor and rotor were right and still only cranks. Not even a cough from her.
|
ive heard there is a module on it that could be bad, not sure though

Will it crank over or will it not crank over at all? With you checking the obviuos I'm getting it will crank but won't start. Does it have electronic ignition or separate coil? I have seen where the distributer takes a crap. If you have good fuel I would check to make sure everything is grounded properly.
Let us know what it ends up being. |
it does crank and has a separate coil. the distributor is new and is good. all wireing has been gone through and checked. and still only cranks.
