TCM ST-450 Switchable Exhaust System
 

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Teague ST-450 Switchable Exhaust System,
I'm thinking of adding this feature to my boat, but was just wondering if it reduces the noise level that much..

They reduce the noise until they burn up, might catch your boat on fire.

what about the hardin marine one, and how would it burn up and catch fire, just enquiring..

My brother and I each bought a set, the solinoids over heated and burnt the coating off the wires.

I had them for a while on a stock 454 Magnum. They worked well, meaning they did quiet it down alot. They are NOT designed to be used above idle. My concern was the huge amount of back pressure and excessive reversion they cause by clogging up the exhaust. If you look at them closely, you will see that when closed, they force all the exhaust and water through a small space.

The Teague tips work great when used as directed...the tips flow enough to operate a 502 @ less than 3500rpm's after that they should be run open, otherwise you are just corking things up and I imagine they would get very hot. Just got to know how to use them. Until now, I have never read 1 negative thing on these tips. I'm sure these things WILL NOT promote reversion as someone stated because an exhaust restriction will reduce reversion, not increase it. Mine have always worked as advertised.

Maybe we got 2 bad sets, we never ran them above idle, docking and no wake.

I have a set on my boat and they work great. The reason they burn up is because they're not set up properly. The solenoids need to either be fully opened or fully closed. If you set it up so that when its in the close position and the solenoid is still pushing on the linkage, the solenoid is going to overheat and burn up. So set them up so that there is some play in the linkage at open and close (ie no stress on the solenoid) and you'll be all good.
