What's the correct way to adjust shift cutout on Alpha I ?
I've a 1985 Aplha I on the back of my boat. What is the propper was to adjust the electronic shift cutout that cuts the ignition for a split second while you shift? I've got a manual, but it doesn't really give a good description on how to adjsut it properly. When the motor is idleing I can press the switch and it will kill the ignition, and the little roller is positioned right in the middle of the V notch bracket. The boat still shifts with quite a clunk, that's why I'm asking. Thanks.

The alpha drive will always clunk but if your idle is set too high it will make a lot more clunk when going into gear. The kill switch is set properly if it shifts smoothly and there isn't any delay in shifting. You shouldn't have to play with the shifters to find neutral.

The shift switch only affects the change from in-gear to neutral. As Tinkerboater says, hi idle speed will contribute to clunk. There is a shift assist spring unit that will help to get clean shifts. What year is the engine?
