I used to spin an all stock GM 2 bolt shortblock 5600rpms all day long for 360 hrs. I would not be concerned with your rpm.

Yep.... as Ryan said, not much to worry about. I think the computer has a hard rpm shutoff somewhere around 5200 or so (not experienced; only read about). Your tach may be a touch off, but it probably doesn't matter too much in regard to longevity and what you're doing. Enjoy it!

As long as it's oiling and not hot with good oil...just run it. I used to run my old 56 Chevy with a 2 bolt 327 in it 6500 RPM every day...no issues !!

5700, never an issue with mine. I put more prop in and dropped to 5200 or so to increase cruise speed, lost about 1mph

MEFI 1's rev limiter was set to 5180. I would assume the MEFI 2 was the same, but I don't have a file I can look at.

How high do you guys who run stock bottom end 350's spin them? It's not like I am going to be holding this thing at WOT for miles, but will surely run it WOT at times and don't want to worry about having a shortblock yard sale in the bilge.
5400-5600rpm since 1991 until last year. Oh, and I drive it like I hate it. But, that's what you are supposed to do with SBC's. Edit in: How about 5400rpm + from Wolfeboro to Green's basin back to Wolfeboro ? Hah ! That was a ride ! |
