Block heaters vs winterizing?

Saw these block heaters on Rex marine and was curious if anyone uses block heaters in stea of winterizing the motors... Searched the threads and hadn't seen any earlier convos on it

I guy here in town used one. Worked good until the power went out. Not worth the chance to me. I guess depends on your location.

to many what if's with block heaters, when winterized properly you don't have to loose sleep at night wondering if the heater is working. put antifreeze in it you'll sleep better.

winterizing involves more than the block.don,t forget your exhaust manifolds,or headers, oil&powersteering coolers, waterpump&all residual pluming.also, antyfreeze does not need a continus power source.

Even with anti-freeze, at the first real cold spell at about 10 degrees I wonder how good of a job I did. Doug

Agreed.... I just had never heard of any reviews on them...I only plan on stopping my winterizing when my new heated shop with back up generator is done next year... I will save that either $500 to pay someone or $75 to do it myself to pour into some mods and tuning every winter
