Upgrade.
 

I have a 5.7 Volvo Penta Gi fuel injected stock, it is mounted on a 1997 four winns unlimited it does 62 on gps but know day any jatski can top that easy and i am tired of been the slowest one at the lake. I want to do an upgrade but honestly dont have any idea of were to start. am planing on muonting a set of headers, will this help?:evilb: Any suggestion will be apreciated.

Use the boat for what it is. Headers will not add any speed to a 350. You will also never recoup any of the $$ you spend on HP upgrades and it will turn off many potential buyers when you eventually sell it. Save your $$$ to upgrade boats.

If you're getting 62 MPH out of that setup you're doing well. So be glad about that.

My first boat was a Crownline 235 and I had the same engine, and the same thoughts as you - how can I go faster?

After alot of research I sold the Crownline and bought my Formula 292. I am much happier in a bigger boat with a higher top-end that is built for speed and has some of the things you really should have for saftey, like hydraulic steeing.

I agreed with Griff, enjoy the boat as is and if you want a go-fast, buy a go-fast.

Why wouldn't an exhaust upgrade help? If he is running a wet exhaust with the standard cast iron riser exhaust wouldnt an imco or similar exhaust system give him 10-20 hp and more torque? I have a vortec 350 with the standard iron/riser/wet exhaust and it seems, based on what I have read so far that the exhaust system creates a lot of back pressure from both the water mixing with the exhaust at exit and from the less than optimal exhaust runner set up.

I entirely agree that you need to carefully think about what you are doing and considering what a realistic goal would be.

I would like some insight as I am taking out my engine for a separate problem and was considering possible upgrades but am thinking now that unless I want to drop $1500 to $2,000 on an exhaust upgrade an other mods are not really going to make a difference.

Basically, 10-20hp in a boat is such a small increase, one would be lucky to see 1 MPH improvement. Unless the exhaust is part of a complete performance buildup, it's really not worth the cash.

The stock exhaust flows plenty for a stock 350. Aftermarket will likely net 0 gains due to an HP increase. You may gain a mph due to the weight savings.

The thing with the headers is that a friend gave them to me he had them sitting in his garage. So if i install the headers i know now that it wont gain anything. The new question is the headers will affect the engine in any aspect been stock like it is? I dont want to hurt the engine.

if you got them for free,put them on,but i agree with griff,on a stock 350,you will not gain much,put them on and let us know what you see as far as speed gains.

Hey MikeTakch nice boat my uncle had one in Puerto Rico with to Evinrude V-8 it loved rough waterit did 82 it was a very fun boat we loved it.
