Whipple charger??
Does a whipple charged engine have to have a scoop on the rear deck to bring in more air? Can it run w/o a scoop efficiently? There are 4 vents on the side but I thought those were for the bilge blowers to vent fumes. thanks

A scoop will not hurt, but it’s certainly not required. I only have four vents, and making 4 digit horsepower is no problem. The real advantage of a scoop is if you can actually draw cooler air into the engine. If not, it just kills the sundeck.
It’s always easier to add a scoop then remove one. :drink: |
Whipples are designed to be as low as possible. Unless you have a wierd stock setup, you should not need to use a scoop.
It is important to be sure to have alot of fresh available in the engine comp, since the blower will be using more air than a stock motor. And the cooler the better. Smitty |
second question
The boat I am looking at has dry exhaust, never owned a boat with dry exhaust and water comes out smaller outlets in transom, any issues to look at with this type of set-up?

My is dry as well. Great setup if you can handle the noise. No chance of reversion either.

I have a 24 baja that is naturally aspirated at 650hp, it is too much, but its nice to have when you "need" it. Seriously,it will be a fine boat, not as fast as other hulls with that much power, but not that difficult to handle. Here is a video of my motor, stainless marine dry exhaust, it is loud.

I am looking at a 24 outlaw fresh water boat with a 509 block with a whipple, around 700 hp with an imco extreme drive and sportmaster lower, seems like way to much for a 24 baja, think I am going to get it though.

It is a 1996 outlaw
Good shape, repainted, motor has 40 hrs and the boat is a freshwater boat with a trl. and new interior in the cuddy and cockpit, the drive and external steering with the shortie drive have 10 hrs on it. Trim tabs are also new. What is a fair price?
