2.3L Whipple on HP 500 carb?
 

I have an HP 500 carb I was about to utilize. I ran into a new 2.3l Whipple for a carb application.
Is this too small? Are these decent units
Not looking to make big power egine is stock but with CMI long swept back headers?
600 hp @ 5600 RPM is target output on 93 octane any thoughts?

Contact BOBL on the boards. He owns Full Throttle Marine. He had one in his shop when I dynoed my engine. It was a 502 with a 2.3 and a dominator carb. I believe it made in the high 700hp range. I think it is a good setup.

I have a stage 1 whipple kit on a 2002 HP500efi. I love it. If its just the blower and no fuel sys upgrades allow $ for the fuel sys upgrades that you will need to keep up w/ the fuel demand. Expect close to 750hp or so if set up properly.

I had a 502 with Canfield AL heads with solid lifters and an intercooled 3.3 carbed whipple. It was good for 760 HP at 6100rpm (8psi and 93 octane)

The 2.3 is too small for 500+ci engines. Yes you can make close to 700 HP, but it will not be efficient or reliable. You have to spin it too hard and that produces heat. If all you "need" is 600HP it should work, but a 3.3 or better would be the ideal choice.

600 is all that is really needed in this application. It sounds like it should do whats needed.

7psi max per Dustin Whipple, I have a simular setup.

Thats 7psi max on 93 octane ; sorry

Any thoughts about selling the Whipple and buying a nice set of Canfield or AFR heads plus a Chris Straub cam and having a 600hp naturally aspirated engine? Could be more reliable than running a SC.

Just an alternative path to your desired 600hp.

The amount of boost is determined by several factors and is not the same for all engines. The compression ratio, size of the engine, camshaft, etc will determine how much boost the blower will make and how much the engine can withstand safely on 93 octane. As I said, all of them are different.

You could easily make 600 hp NA with what you have. If you really want to have the Whipple, then it will easily make over 600 hp if you want. Sure, it is a little small to make tons of power, but it will certainly make over 600 hp with no problems. Good luck with it.
