Throttle lever adjustment problems
 

I replaced my Holley carbs with Sea Demon carbs and am having trouble adjusting the throttle lever throw.

When the Holley carb was installed I had maybe 65-70deg. of throw (from all the way back to wide open), but am now only getting about ½ the throw with the Sea Deamon carb.

The throttle levers are Kiekhaefer Zero Effort Controls.

I was under the impression I would retain the same throttle lever throw with some minor adjustment of the cable. I tried adjusting both ends of the throttle cable, but to no avail. Is the lever on the carb too short, or am I overlooking something very simple here?

I know on my Gaffrig/Livorsi's that I had, you could change the where the cable is connected to the shifter to increase or decrease the amount of throw. Not sure if you can do that with yours or not.

I agree with Griff, take a look up at the throttles and see if you can move the cable closer to the pivot point. You may also be able to move the location that you attached to the carb farther away from the pivot point. Both of these would increase your throttle movement.

No matter how you move the cables, it may not be practical to to get the adjustment you want. If you build stops at the levers, you can bang the throttles hard as you want and not stress the carb linkage.

Audiofn, I think you hit the nail on the head. The linkage was attached to a ¼ opening near the center of the throttle lever. I purchased a linkage bushing kit to utilize the larger ½ inch hole near the end of the throttle lever. Once installed all that was needed was some minor adjustment of the cable and the throttle lever throw is perfect! Thanks again, B
