Bravo "y" pipe removal
 

Besides tough to get at, is it possible to remove the Y pipe without pulling engines??? 06 Fastec twin sbc's.

never done it but want to remove the stuff from my boat...I've repeatedly been told the motors have to coome out.

Impossible unless your about 4" tall...Or your personal friends with Genie

I just took mine out after engines where out and as pic shows imagine 2 engines being in there trying to remove 3 bolts holding it on.

i am about to pull my y pipes out as well , have two engines that i need to put in. what do i do to plug the holes where the pipe comes out of .....

The hardest part is to remove the bottom two bolts. If the seat is easily removable , the engine could slide forward to get to them.

Dookie , you can get a block off plate from Merc or make one yourself. Aftermarket ones [ also S/S] from Rexmarine is a fraction of the Merc's cost.

I'm curious. What is the benefit of removing the Y pipe?

I have an '06 292 that came factory with Corsa 'Quick & Quite' just like what is shown in the pic. It is non-switchable and open all the time through the transom and down through the Y pipe and out the outdrive. Compared to only flowing out the transom it seems like this would be less restrictive, quieter and may also help with getting on plane with the exhaust aerating the water a bit allowing the engine to spin up(?). Or am I wrong about this?

You also have the option to leave the Y-Pipe in tact and just use these Caps to plug it off.

I am not SURE, but I would think it might be possible if you don't have any coolers that run across the back side of your engine. Obviously you will have to remove the outdrive to even have a remote chance.

Of course I guess the only way would be to swing it down and around everything and out the side of the engine making it dependent on the way your stringer system is set up in your boat.

Either way though it would be complete murder trying to hang in the back of that boat upside down, and get those bolts undone, and I say this as a small guy. Just pull the engines and rip them off. The odds are you would strip one/break one off anyways and need to pull the engines anyways....

if you choose to go the plate route dont forget you need new bolts,the ones from the y pipe will be too long
