Installing Amps under rear Bench (Over Heating)

Anybody installed amps under rear bench seat?

Planning on installing (2) JL 1000/1 under bench seat. Not any air flow.
Will I need to install vents (and grille) with fans to cool amps?

Any experiences with these amps over heating?
Thanks

Amps under bench seat

I did not install mine but my last boat, 32' Sunsation had a 700 watt 4 channel amp under the bench seat and i had no problem with it at all. I was more worried about water from wet bathing suits or rain but it never did get wet. I still don't think it's a great location if you have another option!

GOOD LUCK

I have a 300/4 and a 250/1 JL mounted up inside of my rear seat back opening. The sides and bottom are open to fresh air, but the space is only deep enough for the amps to fit. Under hot summer temps and when I have the stereo cranked, they were getting hot and going into protection mode. Installed a single small computer fan to blow across the bottom of the amps that is wired to turn on with the amps. Have a switch mounted there so I can turn it off if I don't need it on. All is good now. Just took a very small air flow to fix. The pics look like the amps hang down low, but they are pretty even with the fiberglass shown. An optical illusion

Thanks for the response. I think to play it safe, the fans will be part of the install.

Ive got 2 Kenwood amps plus a 4 farag digital capacitor installed under my rear bench and have only had them shut down 1 time due to heat--100 degree day and we were anchored and never went anywhere all day. I agree that installing a fan is probably a very good idea but Ive never really had a problem with this setup in 3+ years.

How you load the amp down plays a role in how warm the amp will get. If you've got it down to 2 ohms, then it'll get hotter then it would at 4.

I wouldn't mount anything electronic under the rear bench seat though, like they said above, wet bathing suits.... Sure, you'll remember, but not everyone on your boat will.

If you install fans, make sure to use a relay for the remote turn-on wire.

If you haven't bought the amps yet, look into the Wet Sounds Syn1. It's about the same as the JL but plays more efficiently and is marine grade. The casing is a little smaller too.
