sunpad question
 

The sunpad on my boat fills up with air when going fast so the skin starts flopping up and down,anybody else have that problem?
Is there anyway of stopping it from doing that?I installed vents on the sides but didnt really help,other then glueing the skin to the foam is there anything that could be done?

Bungie cord it. Just kidding. So the air is actually getting through the seem and seperating the top layer of vinyl and the foam pad? Is your stitching holes opened up or stretched? Also is your sun pad the snap down type? I have seen this before also.

I dont know if its air getting in there or if the air traveling over the skin is pushing the skin back,
sun pad is stapled underneith.

i would bet the stiching is loose that holds the vinyl to the foam or the foam separated off of the vinyl like the headliners used to in the older cars

Mine would lift at the rear at speed and kinda' looked like a small spoiler. Had the local canvas/upholstery guy fix it, what we did was to take the entire cover off, then added a very high density 1/4" layer of foam laminated to the top of the factory foam pad, then reinstalled the skin. He also added some xtra vent holes to the pad base to let air out better. Vynil is a fabric and as such can stretch with time and use, mine was a little loose and that was the basic cause of the spoiler effect. Thing to remember is when you reinstall it get it snug, but not so much so that it puts too much strain on the stitching. That is where the beefed up padding comes into play, allows the skin to be snug but prevents a lot of the flex when you are on it. Guy did a super job, looks and feels much better, and no more spoiler even at 90+. Hope this helps.

The vinyl needs to have a foam backing sewn to it to make it thicker. The foam should have been sewn in conjunction with all of the seams when it was made and then it would not do this.

It does have the 1/4 inch foam sewn into the vinyl but still does it,

was thinking of spraying adhesive on it but not sure that I want to make it one with the foam

Yep,that is whats happening with mine,I have the vents but I might have to try the extra 1/4 foam

I have a Checkmate with the same problem. The vinyl would ripple and build up towards the back. I had a tear (dont ask) in the skirting around the edge. When I went to have it fixed
I had the upolster add a 1/2" or 1" of foam just to make the pad softer.. Well it cured the ripple effect, and the pad feels much better than before.
