water pressure question-extra pressure blow off
Quick question, for the water pressure blow off i was told before the strainer is where you would want it. Anyway on my engine its located on top of the ware outlet housing. Should i keep it there or put it just before the inlet side of the strainer
Thanks -Mike |
my engine builder says put relief valve at the very top of motor (t-stat housing) so you don't rob the engine of water.

Thanks answered my question, thats where it is.

You may not even need it. I install them in the strainer to stop the pressure spikes when the boat comes in and out of the water. Those spikes really don't make it past the water pump and into the engine. If your water pressure is not to high, then you really have no need for the relief valve.

Mines in the strainer also. Like young said, the pressure spikes when you splash down won't make it past the pump but it could blow the seal out of the strainer lid. Been there done that. Putting it after the pump won't prevent that from happening. Your not going to get enough pressure from the pump to ever blow the relief, it's open to the exhaust after stat is open, providing you run one.
