Experience with diesel engines?

Does the experience of fitting 2 or 3 diesel engines (Yanmar or others) on a Cigarette 42 has already be done? I'm looking for a top speed of 70 miles/hour with such a boat and diesel is a requirement where I'm living. Is it makeable? What about weight and reliability on this type of speedboats? Any comment appreciated, thanks.

my cousin put 3 Mercruiser diesel 7.3 300hp (powerstrokes) and Bravo diesel drives in his 38 Magnum sportcruiser which weighs more than 25,000lbs fully loaded+fueled .. It runs in the low 60s and gets amazing mpg compared to the previous gas engines.
With 3 400hp Yanmars in your lighter Cig you shouldnt have a problem running 70mph.

may the cumins 480 hp would be a good fit " twin's "
there's a 43 eliminator v that has a top speed of 75mph with twin's
also is the boat a step bottom ? i know the 43 eliminator was if not it will scrub a 5 to 8 mph and that will still but you close i would think .

Many thanks for the reply! I'll have a look to the weight of these engines as I think that I'll be on the heavy side with 3 engines due to my lift specs (16000 lbs). I'm thinking too to Arneson drives as maybe they can add some mph.

the mercruiser 300hp 7.3l (powerstroke) weighs 900lbs for the engine,
the yanmar 440hp weighs about 750lbs
typical big block gas engine is around 650..

I got 1411 lbs for the Yanmar 480 (6LY3-ETP model), dry without gear... What model do you spoke about?

Hi I got twin Volvo D6īs 370īs in my Wellcraft Excalibur. If id have to do the engine swap today I'd probably go for these new 480hp merc's diesels. They had nice vid in the home page, but cannot find it anymore.

Here the specs.

Cigarette built a matching pair of 42 Evolutions years ago with Merlin diesels, it can be done.

We've built the SH 40's with diesel, straight bottom's, you can get to near 70 with ease.

With the 480Hp Cummins you'll be where you want to be.

What are your thoughts on drives that will control your top speed more than anything?

please show me a big block that weighs 650lbs. for that matter how about a standard 350 small block.

We work with nortech quite a bit. A pair of 480's in their 43 will run 72-74 mph with arneson asd-8s. I think the 43 nortech is similar is weight to your cig.
