525SC Supercharger Stud nut Torque Value?
Hey All,
Finishing up my top end rebuild and cant find a torque spec for the blower to manifold stud nuts. I keep hearing how critical the torque is on these nuts because of supercharger case distortion but am having my doubts. First of all they are nylock nuts which typically dont have a torque value and secondly there would be no way to get a modern torque wrench in there. Anyway as you can see Im arguing with myself so can anyone chime in please? Thanks in advance! |
I will also need an answer for the same question on a Wieand 177 blower...Griff?????:party-smiley-004:

The 177 is sold through Holley. I remember finding the installation manual with torque specs on their website a few years ago.
Yep, still there, see page 3 for instruction: http://www.holley.com/data/Products/...99R10244-1.pdf |
Just Called Holley and they gave me the old 10-12 torque number. So I guess I'll go with that. Now if I can just figure how to get a torque wrench in there.....

On my 250 blower it was 14. Key thing was to go slowly and many times around checking for binding. I had one builder recommend three threads of the bolt with Red loctite.
|
It is 10 ft lbs. Make sure to use loctite, either red or blue otherwise they will come loose over time. Also be sure to occasionally check the middle intake manifold to head bolts.
|
Pretty sure it was 12lbs in the Merc Manual I had. I think I ended up using a 1/4 inch socket adapter and wobble to get onto some of the nuts.
|
12-15 foot lbs,its darn near imposible to get a torque wrench on them.start in the middle and work your way out in a circular pattern, dont use loctite red, blue is ok,but not needed if using a nut with the nynatron insert.check them every now and then.

I have always used 10 ft lbs.
