bravo one gimbal pins

well, i found out where that big chunk of concrete is on the way back to the launch ramp.......at low tide

anyway.........

how hard is it to change the left and right side gimbal pins on a 97 model bravo..........

top and bottom pins appear to be fine .........

right hand is only one broken...............

i have the clymer 92-97 reppair manual and its kinda sketchy...........talks about them being put in with locktite and using a special puller.............

looks like pulling the whole outdrive off may be the easiest........

any info would be great...........

thanks

Not too bad, you do need the 12 point hinge pin tool (91-78310 @ $16.32) to get them out and back in, a little heat is not a bad idea either. I think a less expensive aftermarket tool is available from Siera or GLM. After you get the old ones out, clean the hole with a 5/8-18 tap. New pin gets Loctited in, I think 65 ft lbs but as you might know my memory is toast.

I use a large allen head socket on my pins. Sounds like you broke one though. I would be concerned as to why that happened. Your drive should have come up before that happened. Anyway. you are going to have to get the part out of the gimbal ring that remains. That will be tricky, but can be done by drilling a small hole in the remaining part, then using an ez out with heat. Could be touchy though. If you need better advise, or parts, marc at bam marine is excellent! You shouldn't need to pull the drive.

You could probably get it welded and re machined fairly reasonalbly at a local machine shop.

Good luck,
