Help with new carb
I am looking for a new carb for a stock 454 Mag in a 26ft Checkmate. I am pretty sure it has a Weber on it now. I want something that is easy to tune in and reasonable in price.
Any Suggestions? |

This would be a good choice. You might need an adapter but it would be the best carb for your 365hp mag in my .02. Good price too.

I have a barely used Edelbrock 750cfm from my BBC project (40 hours). I never made any adjustments to it out of the box. Cheap... I have too many boxes of 'stuff' !

Why do you think you need a new carb?
Why do you think you need to tune a carb for a stock engine? Why do you think tuning any other carb would be easier than the weber/afb style? |

After I run for a while and turn the engine off it takes a long time to start. I have taken it apart and cleaned and replaced gaskets. I have tied the choke open. Nothing has seemed to help.
Thanks |

Some of the webers installations have hard cold starting problems. I've never been able to completely figure it out, but I've put Qjets on a boat and the problem went away.
But if yours is a warm start issue I would make sure it's the carb that's the issue, not ignition, etc. If it's the fuel boiling out or vapor lock, you might have the same problem with a new carb. You might have a spreadbore manifold now with a squarebore adapter. If that's the case, the most reasonably priced would be a used marine Qjet. Rebuild it, bolt it on, it shouldn't need any tuning. The only modifications would be a new hard fuel line and bend or the choke linkage rod to work without the spacer. |
