Oil Pan Gasket
 

Has anyone ever used a one piece style oil pan gasket on a Mark lV BBC ? Anything good or bad about them. How about any brand or supplier recommendations.

I used a Fel Pro a few times and didn't really care for it. It wanted to slide out on the ends at the timing cover and the rear main. They leaked if you didn't use silicone and if you did use silicone, then it acted as a lubricant and caused the gasket to really slide out.
I went back to a standard gasket and throw the rubber ends away. I just use the side rails and silicone the ends. It is much cheaper and works much better with no leaks.

I've been using them for years. the key to success is to glue them to the block using 3m super weatherstrip adhesive let it dry then you can remove/replace the oil pan without disturbing the seal. originally started using the 3m on valve cover gaskets by glueing gasket to cover, always had solid flat tappet cams so could remove covers endless times?JMO

X2 Put a small dab of silicone in the corners and 3M the rest to the block. Never had them leak for us.

I have used the one piece oil pan gaskets on a gen iv with never any problems. No sliding out or leaking. The one piece is constructed with steel coring, it will maintain its shape and resist crushing unlike a paper type gaskets. I use Loctite 598 on the ends, a cheaper silicone sealent, like blue, clear or black will cause the gasket to slide out. Locite 598 is about the best you can use, I prefer it over all others for engine building. It is like hard rubber when fully cured.

I use The Right Stuff on the ends. Good stuff.

X2 on the right stuff.. not the cheapest stuff on the market but the only product that I have used and never had a leak with.. Intake rails, ect..

what do you use for the rear main seal? Right Stuff as well??

Yes. Just the tiniest bit between the 2 halves at the parting line. I also put just a touch under each half where they meet the block and between the cap and block at the parting line.
