Trim tab pumps blowing fuses

I had just installed my new Eddie marine trim tabs. Now I'm having a problem with fuses blowing when I run the cylinders up or down. When the cylinders dead heads fuse blows. They are blowing on both pumps. The pumps currently have 30 amp fuses. I was told to try 40 amp. But I didn't want to smoke anything. Anyone have any suggestions?

If the tabs are working properly then a bigger fuse is probably all you need. Make sure the wiring you installed can carry 40amps before you install the fuses. Also if you have an amp meter you can measure the amps on the wire to see exactly what the amp draw is. Obviously if the amp draw rises over 40 amps when you bottom out the tabs then the 40 amp fuses will not fix your problem. Hope this helps.

Good suggestions here already.
Remember that fuses protect electrical devices. Override that protection and you potentialy can damage the motor or device.
You mentioned "dead heading the tab" This in itself can cause the motor to lock rotor and raise the amperage draw way above the rated fuse or draw. Measure as suggested and if the tab and pump work properly over their range there should not be any real reason to "dead head" the tab and pump. Remember fuse size must be keep within the amperage capacity of the wire and device sizes used.

I would also suggest talking to Eddie Marine, they build good products and I am sure they will be able to give you good technical and service support.

Motors used on mercury K-planes will draw 30+ amps at stall. A 40 amp fuse should fix your problem. Just make sure you have the right wire size. What size wire do you have and how long is the run?

Im not sure what the wire size is. It looked to be #10. It was a wire harness I got from EM. I have also contact EM and they said to try 40 amp fuse. I tried it Friday morning and it seemed to work. My boat is at my business so I'll try it again tomorrow. I realize you are not to dead head/stall the cylinders. But I was in the process of getting the cables setup for the indicator gauge. So I wanted to make sure the tabs were completely up.
