MSD Box w/ a Thunderbolt Distrib ????

Is it possible to use a MSD 6M box with a Thunderbolt distributor? If so , Is there a pigtail wire connector for it?

You do still need to run the tb4 module though..

kreed, i just did this a few weeks ago. the only prob is that u never really eliminate the factory ignition. the marine msd (6AM) wires through the factory module. i pulled it all out and ran a pro billet distributor and msd blaster coil. it made a world of difference at idle and bottom end. i also ran a 6A box that isnt compatible with the factory dist. i wanted to take out all the stock stuuf because of the problems i was having.

Well thanks for all your input. Im going to do the same thing. I mean, this ignition ran great on dyno...until just above 5000 RPM, maybe 5200. I plan on runnin engines up to 5400, so this ignition will not work for me. MSD it is! Know where theres one for sale???

you can use it with out the merc module..you have to rephase the rotor and run it as a locked out distributor with the msd,you use the distributor as a magnetic pickup..

I've tried that before without any luck and I thought it was because the merc pick up is hall effect and not mag? It worked on an older 7 box on the dyno but wouln't trigger the 6m in the boat. Can you give a quick wiring diagram? thanks! Also for what it's worth the factory GM small cap distributors last a lot longer in a boat then the MSD. The MSD distributor's go green and the pick ups rust very quickly. On smaller blower motors I usually use the Voyager marine ignition kit ($350) it comes with new dist, coil with mount, and plug wires. It has about 8 degrees of advance in the module wich is great for blower stuff and has no problem sparking 800hp. It's also easy to run with MSD with a factory pigtail.. :drink:

you are correct, you can use the merc tv distributor on the newer style 6 box, part # 6530 and can program the timing curve with a laptop.. when i said use the distributor as a magnetic pick up i ment in a way to trigger the box..yes its a hall effect..

if you take the white /red stripe wire and feed 12 v into it and connect the white/grn stripe i can get the distributor to trigger a signal to a dvom,,i haven't tried it yet on a 6 /7 al box yet,,i believe you could hook it up to the white point wire and it may trigger the box
