Whippled mx 6.2
Who has real experience with Whipples on a MX 6.2 and what where the actual performance gains. Thanks in advance

We have done the 383 Mag mpi & quite a few other applications over the years.. Night & Day difference and all were reliable to date. Set up is important.. ;) Jamie / Lakeside

I did one about 5 years ago. Only problem was Whipple could not program the 555 ecm at that time so we went with an aftermarket ecm. Engine ran great for about 3 years until he got some bad fuel. We rebuilt it with forged pistons and aluminum heads. It dyno'd at 570 hp if I remember correctly(stock whipple 6.2 HP is just over 500).
Performance improvement is incredible. You'll have to go up about 4" in prop pitch and still have unbelievable low end acceleration. Bob Full Throttle Marine

Bob, was that an efi or carb set up, and the alum. Heads added around 70 hp? What kinda heads did you use?

We used the Edelbrock E-tech heads, mainly because we needed the Vortec bolt pattern to match the existing blower intake. Stock crank is a nice forged piece and the powder metal factory rods are decent. We used forged dish pistons keeping compression around 8.8:1. I don't remember the brand, probably JE(that's ususally my first choice). This was a factory Merc MPI 6.2 originally. We used a Whipple EFI system with a FAST ECU, 6 psi boost, stainless marine exhaust, slightly bigger cam and roller rockers. 91 octane minimum fuel.

Just went back and looked at the dyno data. It made 581 HP @ 6000 RPM and 585 Ft. lbs. of torque at 4000 RPM. This was in complete marine trim with wet exhaust.

Thank bobl. Very impressive combo. I have other questions, so look for a PM.
